Ekaterina Novikova

I am a PhD candidate in Human Development and
Family Sciences at the University of Delaware.

Research interests

As a social scientist, I study barriers and facilitators to successful child development in the context of family, school, community, and larger society.
My research interests focus on three major areas:

Immigrant wellbeing

Child development

Early educators

In my work, I use both quantitative (longitudinal latent class analysis, regression) and qualitative (grounded theory) research methods. My work has been published in journals such as Acta Paediatrica, Early Childhood Education Journal, and Environmental Education Research. You can learn more about my research here.

Education

Before starting the PhD program, I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Linguistics as well as Bachelor’s in Civil Law at Tambov State University in Russia.

What methods and tools do I use in my research?

I use qualitative (interviews, focus groups), quantitative (cross-sectional and longitudinal research), and mixed methods in my work. I am also interested in engaging community members in research and applying methods such as photovoice and participatory action research.

Who do I work with/have collaborated with?

My work is interdisciplinary – I have collaborated with colleagues across departments at the University of Delaware as well as with scholars from other institutions, including the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Alabama, and Erikson Institute. I also engage undergraduate and graduate students in data preparation and analysis.

How can you collaborate with me?

Where can I find your articles?

And beyond that,
I’m an endlessly curious soul.

I am a curious researcher who finds balance between academic work and the simple joys of life. A deep love for nature keeps me grounded, while playing the piano lets me express creativity in a different language.

Exploring new places and cultures through travel inspires fresh perspectives and gives me energy to work on new projects.

Nature enjoyer

I like to be outdoors with my husband in

search of new species of birds and animals.

Art & culture lover

I enjoy traveling around the United States and discovering
history and architecture of states.
