Teaching

In this section you will find information about courses, seminars and other
forms of my teaching experience.

HDFS 220 – Child Development:

Prenatal to Age Three

University of Delaware

Instructor

This course covered prenatal development and the physical, perceptual, social-emotional, and cognitive-language developmental domains of children birth to three. An emphasis was put on nurturing relationships and understanding child development within cultural contexts of children’s families. Students also engaged in directed observation in infant/toddler classrooms that culminated in writing the reflection paper.

Throughout the course, I drew explicit connections between the learning material and things that students observed in the classrooms. For several classes, I invited guest lecturers with background in early intervention research and early care and education teaching so that students could hear first-hand from practitioners and ask questions. We also explored research on child development and early education in order to see the how research can inform students’ own practice.

HDFS 201 – Lifespan Development

University of Delaware

Instructor

In this course, my students learned about the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of the individual from infancy through old age. We also examined different life stages in the context of the family. My course materials emphasized how processes such as parenting, transition to adulthood, and aging are experienced in the United States and in other countries.

The students completed brief comprehension quizzes, explored case studies, designed informational posters, and worked on reaction papers and small-group tasks using interactive boards.

HDFS 222 – Inclusive Curriculum & Assessment: Birth – Grade 2

University of Delaware

Teaching Assistant

This course focused on curriculum, assessment and programming for optimal development of children birth to second grade in inclusive settings. Topics covered included curriculum approaches and studying the role of play, constructivist theories, and developmentally appropriate/culturally responsive practice.

I worked as a Teaching Assistant, where I assisted with grading assignments and final papers and facilitated small group projects during class hours.

English as a Second/Foreign Language

Teacher

I worked as an ESL/EFL teacher in various types of settings. From 2016 to 2017, I taught English to groups of children and adults at a language center. In 2018, I worked for two months as an English teacher at Grade 11 as part of my university internship. I also worked first part-time and then full-time as a freelance English teacher to individual students and pairs of children and adults.

My classes focused on students’ needs, targeted school exam preparation, international proficiency tests such as IELTS, and English for Specific Purposes. Students’ English language proficiency ranged from Beginner to Advanced.
