Summary

In this paper, we examine the phenomenon of lexical borrowing between English and French in the context of training future linguists and language teachers. The study highlights the historical, cultural, and social factors that have influenced the adaptation of French vocabulary into English. French borrowings in English encompass domains such as politics, law, religion, architecture, fashion, cuisine, art, and science, while English borrowings in French primarily reflect developments in politics, economics, sport, technology, and everyday life.

The paper also addresses the processes of phonetic, morphological, and semantic adaptation of loanwords in both languages, the emergence of doublets, and cases of reborrowing. We also discuss the didactic significance of studying loanwords in the preparation of undergraduate students in Linguistics, as it facilitates vocabulary acquisition, deepens the understanding of intercultural interaction, and enhances linguistic competence.
